Agriculture: the Grain Producer

The province is a major producer of cereals, grains and oilseeds. The main crops grown in Córdoba are soybean, corn, wheat, sunflower, peanut and sorghum. There are also industrial vegetable crops, including potato, sweet potato and olive.

According to the latest statistics of the sector, the Province of Córdoba ranks first at the national level in the production of summer crops (soybean + corn), ahead of the provinces of Buenos Aires and Santa Fe.

In addition, Córdoba accounts for 29.4 percent of the national grain produce (42 million out of the 141.5 million ton in the country originate in Córdoba). Each inhabitant of Córdoba produces 3.5 times more grain than the national average per capita and each hectare of Córdoba produces 23 percent more than the national average yield.

Córdoba's primary products are destined both to industrialization processes in the province and to export.

Livestock Farming

Livestock is the second most important economic activity within the primary sector of the Province of Córdoba. This activity includes the raising of animals for productive and economic purposes. Normally, it is exploited extensively, that is, using the natural resources modified by the producers. Nonetheless, intensive livestock farming, which improves productivity and efficiency, is being used more and more frequently.
