PRODUCTIVE SECTORS

METALWORKING, MACHINE & TOOLS

Córdoba was a pioneer in the production of automobiles and auto parts, its manufacturing history spanning over 70 years. The sector is mainly made up of automotive terminal companies and auto parts manufacturers.

Renault, Fiat, IVECO and Volkswagen have their manufacturing plants in the city and are supplied by more than 250 auto parts companies which, in turn, destine a percentage of their production to the foreign market.

Almost half of Argentina's international auto parts sales originate in the province. The main destination is Brazil, which accounts for 40 percent of Córdoba's auto parts shipments.

On the other hand, due to the high levels of technification and training of resources, Córdoba is the main manufacturing hub for engines and transmissions. In addition, each year an average 200,000 vehicles are manufactured in the province, a figure which represents a third of the national automotive production.

Furthermore, special mention must be made of the level of development of machines, equipment and engineering advances for the food, packaging and transportation of goods industries, as well as the production of goods and services for the oil, gas and mining extractive industries.

The all-important machine and tool sector manufactures fixed assets, tools in general and engineering devices for automation and measurement processes.

Machinery and Supplies for the Oil, Gas and Mining Industries

The industrial experience of Córdoba's companies and their expertise in varied fields has led to the consolidation, in recent years, of a network of companies dedicated to the production of goods and services related to the oil, gas and mining industries.

Thus, in the Province of Córdoba there are companies engaged in the manufacture of gas pressure regulators, approved regulation stations and other products related to the distribution of natural gas and LPG for residential, commercial and industrial facilities.

There are also companies dedicated to energy efficiency analysis and technology-based companies that develop smart monitoring and remote control systems with wireless sensor networks and IoT, or that provide engineering, manufacturing and assembly solutions for all types of industries.

Goods and Services for the Aeronautical and Aerospace Industry

Córdoba also has a significant industrial activity in the aeronautical sector. In relation to this, the Argentine Aircraft Factory (FAdeA), based in the province, was the first of its kind in Latin America.

In the middle of the last century, it became a formidable hub of industrial development that produced, among others, one of the first military jet airplanes: the Pulqui I. This experience served as the basis for the development of the Pulqui II, an exceptional fighter which is one of the fastest in the world.

In 2012, FAdeA launched the serial production project of the Pampa III aircraft. These are two-seater advanced training and light attack aircraft. The aircraft are capable of long-range coastal patrol, border protection and control, and air-to-air, air-to-ground and offensive tactical reconnaissance missions. They have a Full Glass Cockpit-Mil 1553 avionics system, integrated functions (Nav/Com/Attack), and an integrated weapons management system (SMS).

The production of the Pampa III increased the use of national components from 2 percent in previous versions to 10 percent. This requires that the national SMEs that are part of the manufacturing process of the aircraft components meet a high level of excellence and be certified to international standards for the aircraft to be competent in different markets.
